Message from the Executive DirectorIt's difficult to define the role of the Chamber of Commerce in a small city. Of course, the Chamber works with the Fesival and conducts the local Christmas parade. The Chamber is the place to get a new city map, maps of other states, and information about local events. But it's much, much more! It is not an elite group of people. In fact, anyone can become involved in the Chamber. The Chamber is a group of concerned individuals who invest their money (membership dues) and volunteer their time in a team effort to improve the local economy and improve the quality of life. The Chamber is responsible to its membership, who elects a Board of Directors to set policy and direct the work of the organization. Daily, member businesses are recommended when the Chamber receives inquiries for recommendations. Why not? Their membership dues keep the door open and the light on. It is our job to bring together interested citizens with viable concerns and assist them in accomplishing their goals. A large portion of Chamber staff time is spent on community development issues. We also feel responsible for learning of resources available outside our city. When an opportunity presents itself, we assist by recommending these resources that can be utilized to make that opportunity become a reality. At all times and in every way, the Chamber is committed to the economic development of Fordyce. We listen to local citizens and bring their concerns to the attention of persons who can address those concerns. We gather ideas and develop projects to improve our city. We coordinate volunteers to accomplish those projects. Then, we start over again. We are excited here at the Chamber ...excited about Fordyce. Robert Kennedy once said, "Some people see things as they are, and "Why?" I see things as they should be and ask, "Why not?" This is the attitude of the Chamber. If it's in the best interest of our members and of Fordyce, "Why Not?" Come Join us!!! Barbara M. Finley
