Southern Arkansas University Tech

Southern Arkansas University Tech in Camden, a 31 mile drive from Fordyce, was created April 5, 1967, as Southwest Technical Institute. The purpose of the institute was to provide a technically trained workforce for the growing Highland Industrial Park.

Today, SAU Tech, which is now part of a two-campus system comprised of itself and Southern Arkansas University, is the state's technical/junior college as well as the leader in high tech education. It has been designated as the Technical Center of Excellence in Computer Integrated Manufacturing by the Arkansas Business Council and as Arkansas' member of the Consortium for Manufacturing Competitiveness of the Southern Technology Council.

SAU Tech is an institution of higher education holding the philosophy that all students can benefit from comprehensive educational programs regardless of age, sex, or race. Within its resources, SAU Tech provides an open-door admission for all persons who want to enroll and can benefit from attendance. The college is flexible in its response to students' individual needs. Whether students are interested in technology, college transfer, enrichment, or career enhancement, SAU Tech provides educational opportunities to help them become more productive and useful citizens at home, in the community, and in the workplace.
