South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra

The South Arkansas Symphony is a professional orchestra consisting of over 70 members. The orchestra's musicians come from South and Central Arkansas, as well as from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi. Guest artists performing with the symphony have included both regional artists and internationally renowned artists from throughout the world. The orchestra is led by Music Director Kermit Poling who joined the symphony in 1994.

The South Arkansas Symphony presents a main series of concerts performed in Magnolia, El Dorado, and Camden. In addition to this subscription series, the symphony performs a pair of concerts each year for children who are bussed to the concert hall.

During this season, the symphony also presents a series of 40 concerts in the elementary schools throughout the South Arkansas region. Small ensembles from within the orchestra will travel to each of the schools in our area to present performances for 1st through 5th graders. These children will have a unique opportunity to experience live music in an up-close, school environment. The educational programs of the South Arkansas Symphony are sponsored in part by grants from the Arkansas Arts Council, the Magale Foundation, International Paper, and contributions to their Annual Fund Drive.

The South Arkansas Symphony is governed by a twenty-six member board of directors, led this year by board president Matt Lynch. The board consists of members representing Columbia, Ouachita, and Union Counties. The board employs an Executive Director/Music Director, Kermit Poling, and an Operations Manager, Virginia Matthews, in addition to musicians and guest artists.
