Poison Spring Battlefield

The Poison Spring Battlefield located 40 miles west of Fordyce joins with Marks Mill and Jenkins Ferry to form what is officially known as the Arkansas Red River Campaign State Historic Site.

On April 18, 1864, Confederate forces captured a supply train at Poison Spring. On April 25, the Confederacy captured another supply train at Marks Mill. On April 29 and 30, Union troops successfully repelled a Confederate attack at Jenkins Ferry. The weary Union troops crossed a pontoon bridge at Jenkins Ferry and retreated to Little Rock.

Poison Springs offers outdoor exhibits of the Civil War and picnic sites.
